DEA opioid operation leads to 114 arrests, 56 firearm seizures

(Milwaukee –Wisconsin Journal Sentinel June 3)  The U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency made 114 arrests and confiscated 56 firearms in Wisconsin in mid-May in a push dubbed "Operation Smackdown," an investigation focused on seizing misused prescription opioids and heroin.  The Milwaukee operation began in March and culminated the week of May 16, when officers obtained 27 search warrants and made a total of 43 arrests and 45 firearm seizures in Milwaukee alone. Investigators also seized roughly 500 grams of heroin, 2,500 grams of cocaine and 1,250 illegally obtained prescription opiate pills throughout the state. READ MORE
